The safe level for arsenic and mercury in food, water and beverages is zero. They are cancer causing. The safe level of lead is also set at zero because it is a known neurotoxin; the fluorine element that is part of the fluoride substance used in water fluoridation is also a proven neurotoxin and has been known to cause cancer since 1988. Yet, a fluoride substance containing those contaminants is being added to our water supply.
Let’s then understand the water fluoridation situation knowing the above. Our water treatment plant purifies the water from the Ottawa River to the point where it is drinkable, made potable as they say, using various expensive filtration and chemical processes, then once the water is purified, the water treatment plant adds an
- untested and
- highly hazardous,toxic waste
product to it called hydrofluorosilicic acid as a fluoridation product that contains cancer causing substances and other toxic substances in it claiming it has anti tooth decay properties without any
evidence! Now that’s amazing! Actually, that’s plain reckless!
And, according to Health Canada regulations, it’s illegal. How can that be, when Health Canada medical bureaucrats themselves promote water fluoridation? Now that does not make sense. Something is very, very wrong here and needs to be fixed.
The scientific/legal determination of safety is based on 2 types of research:
- 1. Animal studies (toxicology studies)
- 2. Human studies (clinical trials, epidemiology studies)
The actual fluoride products most commonly used in artificial water fluoridation (silicofluorides H2SiF6, Na2SiF6) have neither the required animal studies (toxicology studies) nor the required human studies (randomized controlled clinical trials) to determine safety.
- 1. In the absence of any studies showing safety, any claims that these products are “safe” are not based on well-established scientific protocols.
- 2. In the absence of any studies showing safety, any claims that these products are “safe” are not based on legal definitions and requirements as defined in various Canadian laws and regulations.
A formal complaint was filed with the Auditor General of Canada on May 26, 2011 regarding the unregulated, unsafe, illegal fluoride products used in artificial water fluoridation. An Executive Summary is available here.
It is interesting to note that the organizations which promote artificial water fluoridation, from Health Canada, to the provincial and municipal medical bureaucrats, accept no responsibility for the safety of this policy. Neither do the Canadian Dental Association (CDA), the Ontario Dental Association (oDA), the Canadian Medical Association (CDA), the Ontario Medical Association (ODA) yet all promote it as if their life depended on it. They all cite endorsements, but without any valid, objective and unbiased primary substantiating research whatsoever.
Artificial water fluoridation in Canada is permitted by Health Canada through a litany of transgressions that includes mis-representation of scientific evidence, mis-classification of fluoridation products, non- regulation of fluoridation products used for specific health purposes, dismissal of ethical and human rights violations, ignoring violations of environmental laws, ignoring legal requirements for safety, ignoring the evidence of health harm, and ignoring evidence that fluoridation of drinking water is ineffective in dental cavity prevention. This collection of misdeeds by Health Canada has created a situation whereby it is impossible to monitor Canadians’ fluoride exposures because of its ubiquitous presence in our entire food chain.
All Canadian citizens consume beverages or foods prepared with fluoridated drinking water, whether they know it or not. Because fluoride is promulgated as a therapeutic agent, it would represent the most widely used medication in use in Canada. For this reason, government regulation of these ubiquitous fluoride products must no longer be ignored.
Everyone agrees that municipalities are responsible for the safety of Canadian citizens because municipalities decide to fluoridate, choose the fluoride products, buy the fluoride products, and put the fluoride products into the drinking water.
So it is up to municipal politicians to end this harmful, wasteful and unethical practice.
